Situations and Conversations Dog Owners Understand

If you own a dog, you know - we have conversations, have been in situations and have opinions - non dog people will never have – about dog poop.

The 1 Bagger Situation

You've been there - you grab your dog walking gear and it's going to be great. The weather is perfect - it's you and your dog. Arriving at your location, little excited yelps from the back of the car, and out you both go. Before you even start your walk - (enter your dog's name here) has started his "perfect pooping spot search" and finds it. While you are waiting for him to finish his business you are reaching into your pocket and pulling out your poop bag roll.

Horror, PANIC — there is only 1 poop bag left on the roll and you know (enter your dog's name here) WILL poop again.

And just like that, with a look over its shoulder at you – the 2nd "perfect pooping spot search" begins.  And, now, the chore of trying to fit 2 poos into the same bag is upon you.

Pooping Style

Speaking of the "perfect pooping spot search" - I have 2 dogs - Luv, the Rough Collie (think Lassie Dog) is so proper - she suddenly bolts off by herself - usually toward a far off field kinda place, tall grass preferred - walks in circles or back and forth till ready. Meanwhile I am racing across a huge empty field with my eyes like radar on her so I can find "it" when I get there. She sprints off feeling much better - long hair blowing around as she runs - off to have more fun - while I am heading into the middle of the field - eyes laser focused on her "last location" trying to find "it" and bag the present she left me.

Buddy (Border Collie) on the other hand prefers to make his deposits near bushes or under trees - the trees/bushes have his back during important business transactions. Turning in circles leaving many little deposits. I am then, bag in hand, under a tree or crawling under a bush to collect all the little nuggets. 

If you see me after a dog walk and I have twigs or leaves in my hair, grass or muck on my pants - you know.

Comments, Questions and Conversations

Why does your dog poop as soon as he gets out of the car at the park?
This question was an easy one - he, the dog, Buddy, is super excited and wants to run. He knows if he rids himself of the poop right away - I will pick it up and carry it in a little bag for him instead. Oh and he can run faster without the extra weight.

Your dog really tries to cover up his poop - look at him raking the ground!
Buddy will rake the ground, after making a deposit, like his life is depending on it. Rocks, grass, sticks and muck flying everywhere - not in only 1 direction and not only with the back feet - all directions and with all 4 feet – after a full body shake and shiver – he is off!!

I explained he isn't covering "it" up - he is making a big announcement - I am here and this is mine!!

Luv isn't a ground raker - she is much too polite for that activity - she prefers to get away from "it" as fast as possible.

Dog Walker Report

I had a fantastic dog walker during a very busy and hectic time for us.  Every time she would walk my dogs she would text a report - lots of cute pics, a pee and poo count - always adding if the poo looked normal or if it was a "good one". But this report isn't limited to dog walkers – we all do it and we don't hesitate to tell others in our dog family.

Common Observations

• We also know when out walking our dog in cold weather (Calgary!!!) you never, ever lick your fingers to open a poo bag - you either preopen the bags at home or you touch your dog's nose for a little moisture.
• A dog will automatically head for carpet when experiencing a digestive upset – note: I do not have carpet in my home – anymore!!
• We can talk about dog poo before coffee or while enjoying a coffee.
• We can tell you about the best poop bags, have strong opinions about them and how many we have left. We even know which brands open easily with cold fingers - again (Calgary we see you).
• We are fierce when we say "Don't feed the dog that" because we just know who the dog is going to wake up at 2 am.
• These are just a few of the completely normal conversations we have in our world as dog owners - and talking about dog poop is, well, completely normal for us.
